Cyber Update

An update from GuarantorMyLoan about a recent cyber incident.

Dear Customer,

We are writing to let you know about a cyber incident we have been dealing with involving a third-party service provider that processed information on our behalf and what it means for you.

What happened?

A third-party provider that we work with recently experienced a cyber security incident. We have been advised that files containing personal information relating to some of our customers had been accessed without authorisation and copied as part of the incident.

The third party took steps to contain the incident, secure its systems and engaged cyber security experts. We have reported the incident to the relevant authorities.

Our investigation of the incident indicates personal data was contained in the affected files. The personal data may include personal details such as contact details (your name, email, phone number, address) and your date of birth.

Importantly, our review of the affected files involved did not identify that they included bank account details, usable payment card details, passwords, or payment credentials.

What should I do?

You do not need to take any specific action. However, as a precaution, we recommend that you remain vigilant for unexpected emails, text messages, telephone calls, or other communications claiming to be from us or requesting personal information. Verify unusual requests by contacting us using the number on existing correspondence or by independently visiting our website.

You do not need to take any action, but you might receive emails, calls or texts claiming to be GuarantorMyLoan when they are not, so please be cautious.

How can I stay safe online?

Here are some hints and tips on how to stay safe online:

  1. Be careful if you receive an email or text message asking you to click on a link — check it goes to where you expect it to.
  2. Use a strong and unique password for your email account and use different passwords for each account you have.
  3. Always do your software updates on your phones and devices, as they often contain important security updates to protect you.
  4. 4. If you need more help, there is some good advice on the government’s National Cyber Security Centre website.
